Something had to focus all that white shiplap, so we went with a black interior front door using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Graphite. It is commanding without being overdramatic, thanks to the molding imagined by the incomparable Fred Gunther of Gunther Homes. The original paver pattern tile now looks more elemental and interesting than drab and dated. For now, it will live to see another generation’s renovations (I reserve the right to change my mind).
